James Greer was born in 1978 and grew up in rural Appalachian North Carolina, where the rich cultural juxtaposition of supernatural folklore and Southern Baptist apocalypse fetishism fueled years of nightmares and inspired countless monster drawings. His formal art education began and ended with high school art classes. Moving to Athens, Georgia, after graduating, he found himself surrounded by artists and musicians, some of whom inspired and motivated him to take his art seriously. For the past 23 years, he has been honing his illustrative skills, having the privilege of being shown in several local galleries and businesses, being commissioned for personal work, including murals, album covers, tattoos, and other novelties. Presently, he is eschewing commissions and commercial work to expand upon his personal illustrative mythos, as well as addressing burdensome existential conundrums through his drawings.
